The Role of a School-Based Physical Therapist in Missouri

Physical Therapists at Compass Therapy Solutions play an essential role in supporting students’ mobility, physical access, and functional participation within the school environment. Our PTs work directly in schools to assess, treat, and support students with physical, orthopedic, neurological, and developmental needs that impact movement and access to education.


PT responsibilities may include:

Placements are typically local to where therapists live. When travel is required based on district needs, Compass Therapy Solutions provides a travel stipend. Virtual placements are used only when an in-person provider cannot be located, ensuring continuity of services for schools and students.
  • Conducting physical therapy evaluations and mobility assessments
  • Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans
  • Supporting gross motor development, strength, balance, and coordination
  • Addressing mobility, positioning, and safe access within school settings
  • Recommending and supporting the use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices
  • Collaborating with special education teams, teachers, and families
  • Participating in IEP meetings and required documentation
  • Delivering services in alignment with district, state, and federal guidelines

Compensation and Pay Rates

Compass Therapy Solutions offers competitive and transparent pay rates for Physical Therapists, aligned with school-based compensation standards across Missouri.

Average PT Pay Rate:
 Physical Therapist (PT): $70.00/hour

Rates vary based on placement, role, and district requirements.
 This is an average representation and not a guarantee.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • Eligibility: Available after 12 months of full-time employment (32+ hours/week)
  • Annual Allotment: 42 hours per year
  • PTO does not roll over and is not eligible for cash-out

Simple IRA Retirement Plan

Summer Savings Plan
